At last!

At last we have our first egg! It has been just over a month since we got the chickens so we were waiting for one any moment. Today, Thursday 4th June, Oliver and I checked the nest box before we went to school, but there was nothing. When I checked again after school, this is what I found! it is slightly smaller than a normal sized egg, but thats quite normal to start with. I think it is Buttercup's egg as she has got her wattles (the red bits on the head) already so must be the eldest of the four.

First swim!

Jaffa and Ozz enjoy their first swim in a paint tray. They are now 5 days old.

They are fast!

At 4 days old the ducklings run really fast. Here they are following me!

First Cuddle!

Standing Tall!

The Ducklings are 4 days old, see how much they have grown!

Ducks first night!

The ducklings were tired after their first day in their new home, so we played Classic FM to get them to sleep! - The video was taken on Sunday the 31st May. They were 1 day old, just.

Begging for treats!

Here are Poppy and Buttercup on the swinging seat, waiting for some more corn mix. They will even sit on your knee and try to peck at your drink of tea!

Poppy!

This is Poppy, she is a lovely bird, very quiet but will let you stroke her. I think she is second in the pecking order as she is always second to eat and never far from Buttercup. Poppy loves to perch on anything and has got into the habit of perching on the top of our swinging chair! she loves to sit here or on my knee when its corn feeding time!

Buttercup!

Buttercup was the most timid chicken at first, but she soon got used to us. Now she follows me around the garden waiting for some mixed corn. In fact she practically begs like a dog. She loves being under the willow tree, and I am pretty sure that she is the top of the pecking order. I have noticed that she sleeps alone, whereas the other 3 huddle together. Buttercup is always the first out of the run and first back in when I tell her - the other just follow her every move!

Introducing the Chickens!

We got these chickens on 2nd May. They were around 16 weeks old. Here is them being introduced to their new home. From left to right, their names are, Princess Jabba the hut (ask Oliver!) Buttercup (the brown one), Bluebell (thats her variety too) and Poppy (or Edward calls her Popcorn Chicken!).

Welcome to the new arrivals!

The ducks hatched on the night Saturday 30th May/ Sunday 31st May. We picked the up at around lucnhtime on the sunday. These are Indian runner ducks, they are those that don't fly but run about alot. We have named the yellow one Jaffa and the brown one Ozz. We don't know the sex of them yet but we will be able to tell in a few weeks time. I think Jaffa is the youngest as when we brought her home he was very sleepy and didn't move about much. But now he runs arond really fast! I say 'he' as his tail curls a little and thats is a sign for a drake, but we will have to see!
